The RAPTC Golf team secured a hard fought win against the AGC at Merrist Wood GC on Wed 25 Mar 15. First off was Capt 'Barney' Barnett with SSgt Jase Browring who had to battle hard to come away with a 2 & 1 win after only taking the lead on the 15th green. Maj Tom Scarr and Stu Hawkins secured their win on the 18th, while Lt Col (Retd) Gary Jones and SSgt Allen won comfortably 5 & 4. Unfortunately Maj Bob Taylor and Sgt Craig Watson were given a golf lesson by one of the AGC team who played to four over par; they lost 7 & 8! Good win Gentlemen!
The next game is against CAMUS on 15 Apr 15; if you are inerested in playing please contact Sgt Stu Hawkins on firstname.lastname@example.org

RAPTC Golf - Sgt (SI) Stu Hawkins
The last year has certainly been a success for RAPTC Golf with a number of new faces taking to the course and representing the RAPTC throughout the season.
As usual the 2014/15 season started with the annual match against Petersfield Golf Club. The RAPTC were kindly hosted again by Lt Col (Retd) B Lillywhite and we are very grateful for his kind hospitality.
Moving on into May saw the inaugral RAPTC Officers mess vs RAPTC WO's and Sgt's Mess at Dummer GC, Basingstoke. The match ended in a sporting half with neither side claiming the bragging rights for the season. Planning for next seasons match has already taken place with myself and Capt (MAA) Barnett as the respective team captains who are keen to take the first honours in this match!
Unfortunately the match wasn't a success for Capt Barnett as his driver snapped before he has even hit a shot!
2014 was also a season for the creation of the RAPTC Festival of Golf. The event saw over 30 RAPTC personnel both past and present take to the course at the De Vere Belton Woods GC near Grantham and proved to be a great success throughout. Also encompassed in the event was the RAPTC Corps Championships which after a tough two days which I managed to sneak at the end from Maj (MAA) R Young and Maj (MAA) T Scarr. Moving forwards to 2015 the RAPTC committee hope to build on the success of this event and are holding the 2015 at the Marriott St Pierre, Chepstow.

In July it was onto the annual Inter Corps Championships at Saunton Golf Club, Devon. It was also to be the year that the RAPTC caused a major upset to the defending champions! After being drawn against the Royal Armoured Corps in the first round and needing 3 points from 5 to progress through to the next round. The RAPTC team finally managed to edge out the RAC 3-2 and it was through to round two where we were up against the Royal Engineers.
Playing the Royal Engineers and defending champions in round two was certainly going to be a tough game for the RAPTC with the Royal Engineers fielding a very strong team consisting of Army team players and further to this the newly crowned Army Matchplay Champion. After 5 very closely contested matches it was the RAPTC who finally went through to the Quarter Final to face the Royal Logistics Corps. The victory over the RE certainly was a great one for smaller Corps such as the RAPTC and arguably one of our finest.

Heading towards the end of the season in September saw the Bi-Annual Association Championships which were held at Pine Ridge Golf Club near Deepcut. The event saw a great turn out for RAPTC golf with 46 golfers taking part. After a good day for scoring on the course it was Lt Col (Retd) G Jones who won the handicap points prize and Mr Dave Scott who won the scratch score prize on the Association side and WO2 Steve Green who won the serving points competition. It was then down to the most contested prize and it was the RAPTC retired members who sneaked a win by the narrowest of margins against the serving members in the Serving vs Association match.

Moving forwards to this year and the 2015/16 season, RAPTC golf is in a good place with currently ten fixtures planned for the summer. The RAPTC Golf committee are constantly looking for new players to come and represent the RAPTC so if you are interested in coming along then please don't hesitate to get in touch with myself for further information.
